Filmmaker Rohit Shetty has officially announced the fifth chapter of his hit Bollywood comedy franchise, “Golmaal 5,” with principal shooting now underway. The project was unveiled on Shetty’s 52nd birthday, when he released a making‐of video that also confirmed the return of the core gang—Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Khemu and Tusshar Kapoor. Akshay Kumar is the new key addition to the cast, joining the franchise for the first time in “Golmaal 5.” The announcement clip shows Kumar sporting a bald look, nodding to a fresh character design, and the actor himself has described the film as a louder, bigger version of the chaos fans have come to expect from the series. Sharman Joshi also re‐enters the universe, reprising his role as Laxman Sharma more than two decades after the first film, “Golmaal: Fun Unlimited.” The mix of the original ensemble and the new star cast has sparked early buzz about the film tapping into both nostalgia and a fresh, larger‐scale comedy. The franchise, which includes “Golmaal Returns,” “Golmaal 3” and “Golmaal Again,” continues under Shetty’s direction, with the production currently based in Mumbai. While an official release date has not yet been locked, trade reports and early updates suggest the film is being positioned for a 2027 theatrical window as part of a planned big‐budget comedy release.
