California Highway Patrol officers arrested singer Britney Spears, 44, on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol late Wednesday in Ventura County, California, after receiving reports of erratic driving on the southbound 101 Freeway. Britney Spears Authorities transported Spears to a local hospital for a blood draw to determine her blood alcohol content before booking her at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office at 3:00 a.m. on Thursday. She was released under a cite-and-release agreement at 6:07 a.m. pending chemical test results and faces a scheduled court appearance on May 4. Police towed her vehicle from the scene. On Friday, Spears’ official representative issued a public statement addressing the arrest and the singer’s current status. “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” the representative stated. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue plan to set her up for success for her well-being.” Following her release, former assistant Sean Phillip confirmed he spoke with Spears, who told broadcasters that she was physically unharmed. Spears’ former husband, Sam Asghari, also addressed the arrest during a Friday television interview, declining to comment extensively on the pending litigation. “When it comes to people making mistakes, I understand that,” Asghari said. “I think that everyone deserves privacy. And I hope the press has learned from the past that they give her the privacy that she needs.” The arrest occurred three years after a Los Angeles judge terminated Spears’ 13-year court-appointed conservatorship in 2021. Prior to the traffic stop, Spears deactivated her social media accounts and secured a permanent restraining order against a Louisiana man accused of trespassing at her residence.
